Chapter 3 Definitions Flashcards
Acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction
Approved
Equipment or materials to which has been attached a label, symbol, or other identifying mark of an organization that is acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.
Labeled
Equipment, materials, or services included in a list, published by an organization that is acceptable to the authority, having jurisdiction and concerned with the evaluation of products or services, that maintains periodic inspection of production.
Listed
A transition assembly used between underground, polyethylene and polyamide pipe and above ground metal, piping or equipment, and terminating above ground outside of a building
Anodeless riser
A facility that stores LP gas in containers of more than 4000 gallons water capacity prior to further distribution as a liquid for use at other facilities
Bulk plant
A container that is used to transport LP gas as a liquid cargo that either is mounted on a conventional truck chassis or is an integral part of a cargo transport vehicle
Cargo tank
A foundation consisting of solid concrete or masonry blocks, a placed concrete slab, or a poured concrete foundation
Concrete pad
A container designed, constructed, tested, and marked in accordance with the US Department of Transportation specifications, title 49, code of federal regulations or in the coordinates with a valid DOT special permit.
Cylinder
Any vessel, including cylinders, tanks, portable tanks, and cargo tanks, used for the transporting of storage of LP gases
Container
A cylinder that can be connected for service in either the vertical or horizontal position, so that the fixed maximum liquid level gauge, pressure, relief device, and withdrawal apparatus function properly in either position
Universal cylinder
The maximum pressure at which the equipment or system is designed to operate
Design pressure
A hose and its couplings permanently installed for the purpose of unloading product from cargo tank motor vehicles in non-metered service into a bulk plant or industrial plant
Facility hose
A liquid level indicator that uses a positive shut off vent valve to indicate that the liquid level in a container being filled has reached the point at which the indicator communicates with the liquid level in the container
Fixed liquid level gauge
A fixed liquid level gauge that indicates the liquid level at which the container is filled to its maximum permitted filling limit
Fixed maximum liquid level gauge
A gauge constructed with an element installed inside the container that floats on the liquid surface and transmits its position to a device outside the container to indicate the liquid level
Float gauge
A type of variable liquid level gauge that indicates the liquid level on a dial gauge installed on an ASME container by manually rotating an open ended tube inside the container, which is constructed to a positive shut off vent valve
Rotary gauge
A variable liquid level gauge in which a small positive shut off valve is located at the outside and of a straight tube that is installed vertically within the container
Slip tube gauge
A device that indicates the liquid level in a container throughout a range of levels
Variable liquid level gauge
An operation performed on a gas piping system to verify that the system does not leak
Leak check
Any material having a vapor pressure not exceeding that allowed for commercial propane that is composed predominantly of the following hydrocarbons, either by themselves, except propylene, or as mixtures: propane, propylene, butane, and Butylenes
Liquefied petroleum gas
ASME container designed for underground service installed above the minimum depth required for underground service, and covered with earth, sand, or other material, or an ASME container designed for above ground service installed above grade and covered with earth, sand, or other material
Mounded container
A safety device that is designed to provide an automatic means to prevent the filling of a container in excess of the maximum permitted filling limit
Overfilling prevention device
