Chapter 3-Cells Flashcards
Cell
Basic unit of structure and function of all living things
Nucleus
Controls the activities of the cell and facilitate cell division
Nuclear membrane
regulates transport of substances into and out of the cell
Nucleoplasm
A clear semi liquid that fills the spaces around the chromatin and nucleoli
Nucleolus
Reservoir for RNA
Ribosomes
Serves at site for protein synthesis
Cytoplasm
watery thing that hold the organelles
Centrosome
contains two centrioles that are functional during animal cell division
Endoplasmic Reticulum
transport molecules in and out of the nucleus
Mitochondria
serves as sites of cellular respiration and energy production ;stores ATP
Golgi Apparatus
manufactures carbohydrates
Lysosomes
serve as center for cellular digestion
Perioxisomes
help to digest fats and detoxify harmful substances
Cytoskeleton
provides support and structure of cells
Pinocytic Vescles
large molecules can enter the cell
Cilia and Flagella
creates movement
Meiosis
Involves reproduction ; sex cells
Mitosis
involves growth and maintenance of cells
Mitosis Stage 1
Interphase-All metabolic cellular activities to help in the maintenance of cell homeostasis
Mitosis Stage 2
Prophase- two pairs of centrioles start to deprecate toward the opposite ends or poles of the cell
Mistosis Stage 3
Metaphase-Nuclear membrane completely dissolved, chromatin pairs arrange in single file
Mitosis Stage 4
Anaphase-chromatin seperate
Mitosis Stage 5
Telophase-chromosomes pull toward opposite ends of the cell
Necrosis
cell has unprogrammed death
