Chapter 4-Tissues and Menbranes Flashcards
Tissues
groups of cells
epithelial tissue
protects our body covering internal / external surfaces
Connective tissue
connects organs and tissue
Muscle tissue
contain cell material has the ability to contract and move
Nervous tissue
contains cell that react to stimuli and conduct an impulse
Squamous epithelial cells
flat irregularly shaped
line the heart, blood and lymphatic
Cuboidal epithelial cells
cubed shaped
line kidney tubers and cover ovaries
columnar epithelial cells
elongated
line ducts, digestive tract, respiratory tract and glands
Endocrine gland cells
secrete substances directly into the bloodstream
Exocrine gland cells
secrets substances into ducts
connective tissue
allow for movement
provide support for other types of tissue
adipose tissue
stores lipid, acts as filler tissue, cushions, support and insulates the body
areolar (loose)
surrounds organs cell, supports nerve blood vessels
elastin and collagen
both are areolar tissue
seeing white fibrous protein
ligaments
connects bones to bones
tendons
connect muscle to bones
aponueroses
connects muscle to muscle
