Q

Resonance rules

A

1) Lewis structure with smaller or no formal charge is preferred
2) Lewis strucuture with less separation between opposite charges is preferred over a Lewis structure with a large separation of oposite charge
3) Lewis structure in which negative formal charge are placed on more electronegative atoms is more stable then one in which the negative formal charges are placed on less electronegative atoms
