Chapter 3: Automatic Flight Flashcards
Bank Button
Limits bank to 17 degrees in HDG mode
(Post Mod LOAD 27.1) Limits bank to 15 degrees in HDG Mode
AFCS (Automatic Flight Control System) Components
- Flight Director (FD)
- Autopilot (AP) with coupled Go-Around (GA)
- Yaw Damper (YD)
FD Automatically turns on when:
- TO/GA button actuation
- Manual selection of any vertical or lateral mode
- AP engagement
- WSHR Detection
To turn off the FD…
Press FD on the coupled side (with AP disengaged) to turn off both FDs.
OR…
Press FPA when FPA mode is already selected
*FD off => SpdT
Autopilot Non-normal and Abnormal Disengagement
- AP is pressed on guidance panel
- Either manual trim switch is pressed
- Either stick shaker activated
- Windshear escape guidance activated
- Reversion of FBW to direct mode
- Aileron or elevator disconnected
- Pilot in put on control column; long-time light force, or short-time strong force
- Internal monitor failure
Roll Mode Bank Limits
Current Bank < 6 degrees => commands wings level
6 degrees < Current Bank < 35 degrees => Maintains current bank
Current Bank > 35 degrees => Maintains 35 degrees
Takeoff Pitch Limits
For all engines operative: V2 + 10 kt
Failure below V2: V2
Failure between V2 and V2 + 10: Current Speed
Failure above V2 + 10: V2 + 10
TO pitch limited between 8 and 18 degrees
Max speed target VFE - 5
Min speed target VShaker + 10 (Vshaker + 3 for EO)
Go-Around Logic
Initially commands 8 degrees pitch to intercept speed target, then tracks speed
Speed Target:
-All engines, Vref + 20
-One engine, Vac
If speed target is invalid, commands 8 degrees pitch
Will not capture a selected altitude within 400’
GA pitch limited between 8 and 18 degrees
Max speed target VFE - 5
Min speed target VShaker + 10 (Vshaker + 3 for EO)
VGP Activation
Can be armed within 30 nm radial distance of destination
Activated when 5 nm from FAF or within 30 nm of destination and “activate vectors”
*Do NOT arm or activate VGP in a holding pattern
ILS “Checkpoints”
1500 RA – System attempts to arm the highest approach capability
800 RA – Approach capability locked in
Autothrottle Low Speed Protection
With flaps 0:
Below 20,000’ – 1.2 Vs
20,000’-30,000’ – Linear between 1.2 Vs and 1.02 LSA
Above 30,000’ – 1.02 LSA
Flaps not 0: 1.2 Vs
Autothrottle Disengagement
AT disengages when:
- Touchdown
- Thrust reverse during RTO
- TLA > TOGA
- Difference in TLA > 8 degrees
- AT failure
