Chapter 12: Ice and Rain Protection Flashcards
1
Q
Ice and Rain Protection Components
A
- Ice Detectors
- Pneumatic Heating
- Wing anti-ice
- Engine anti-ice
- Electric Heating
- Windshield heating
- ADSP/TAT
- Static port
- Water lines
- Rain Protection
- Windshield wipers
2
Q
Engine Ice Protection
A
- Hot air extracted from high stage bleed
- Engine anti-ice valve is fail safe open
3
Q
Wing Ice Protection
A
- Three (3) outboard slats are heated by engine bleeds
- One engine can provide bleed to both sides through the crossbleed valve
4
Q
Ice Detectors
A
- Two (2) installed on left and right side of nose
- Command A/I protection for 2 or 5 minutes, depending on the MOD
- Failure of one detector results in loss of redundancy
- Failure of both detectors results in manual control only
5
Q
Engine and Wing A/I Activation Logic
A
Engine: -REF A/I ALL -- Engine running -A/I mode ON -- Engine running -Ice detected -- 1,700' or 2 minutes Wing: -REF A/I ALL -- Wheel speed > 40 kt -A/I mode ON -- Liftoff -Ice Detected -- 1,700' or 2 minutes
6
Q
Windshield Heating
A
- Only operates normally if there are two (2) AC sources
- Performs two (2), 120 second PBITs as soon as one AC source is first available
- If only one (1) AC source in-flight, only one (1) windshield is heated with captain’s side having priority
7
Q
ADSP/TAT Heating
A
- Automatic whenever and engine is running or the airplane is airborne
- Manual override button; if batteries are only power source, only ADSP 3 is heated
8
Q
Slat Anti-Ice PBIT
A
- Occurs 10 minutes after takeoff or reaching 10,000’
- Lasts 60 seconds or until all slat temperature sensors increase by 10 F
