What are the Greek vowels?
alpha, epsilon, eta, iota, omicron, upsilon, omega
What does gamma nasal mean?
Gamma is pronounced as an ‘n’ when followed by one of four specific letters
Gamma is pronounced as ‘n’ when immediately followed by
gamma, kappa, chi, or xi
These vowels can be long or short
alpha and iota

What is a diphthong?
two vowels that produce one sound

alpha iota - pronounced as aisle, epsilon iota - as in eight, omicron iota - as in oil, alpha upsilon - as in sauerkraut, omicron upsilon - as in soup, epislon upsilon or eta upsilon - as in feud
What is an improper diphthong?
made up of vowel and iota subscript. iota subscript does not affect pronunciation but important in translation.
What is a diaeresis?
two dots placed over second vowel to show that two letters normally formed as a dipthong are not in that word
