Right now! Right away!
Explain what is meant by the phrase, “Junk food damages your body at the cellular level.”
All life begins at the cellular level in your body. The health of the cells make up the tissues, the health of the tissues make up the health of your body systems and your health. Your cells take in nutrients for the whole body.
Explain 3 dangers of “fad” diets
- They make promises that are unhealthy, i.e., quick weight loss makes you think of the short-term.
- Most of them have lots of sugar or artificial sweeteners.
- Most of them lack vital nutrients/minerals.
Label the Food Pyramid with the correct food groups. Include the number of servings suggested for each group.
refer to pg. 61 in your book
How might you change or adjust the Food Pyramid to be even healthier than it is?
Put the vegetables and fruit on the bottom of the pyramid instead of the grains
How might you benefit from keeping a food journal?
It helps you find unhealthy patterns or weaknesses in your eating habits.
Filling in the comment section helps you to understand details of your eating patterns with statements like, “I ate cookies when I was angry at my Mom, “ or “I got a headache after I ate that soda and chocolate candy.”
Imagine that you have a friend(s) about whose poor eating habits you are very concerned. How might you determine if they have a problem with anorexia? How might you determine if they have a problem with bulimia? What might you say and/or do to help your friend?
Be prepared to answer in essay format
Discuss the signs of anorexia and/or bulimia
Discuss things such as:
encouraging them to talk with an adult; don’t nag them about their food; be there for them, especially if their parents don’t understand their highs and lows; show them love and acceptance as people-just as they are- with no strings attached.
