Chapter 3 (3.1) Flashcards
What do every cells need for cell respiration and to obtain energy?
-Oxygen (cell respiration)
-Nutrients (energy)
What is eliminated by cells to the external environment?
-Carbon dioxide
-Other waste products
What do cells exchange minerals from their surrounding through their membrane?
Diffusion
How does diffusion work?
Minerals such as oxygen and glucose pass through the cell membrane due to the difference in concentration gradient.
What does the transport system differs to?
-Simple organism
-Complex organism
What are examples of simple organism?
-Amoeba
-Paramecium
-Euglena
What is the transport system for a complex organism called?
Circulatory system
What are the functions of circulatory system?
-Transport needed material such as oxygen and glucose to the cells of the body
-Remove waste products such as carbon dioxide and ammonia
-Fight against diseases by transporting white blood cells throughout the body
What are the difference between the functions of simple organism and complex organism?
Simple organism
-To absorb nutrients from surrounding of the cell
-Expel waste
Complex organism
-To transport nutrient and waste to and from the body
-Fight off diseases by transporting white blood cells
