- How is planning a continuous process
Planning requires revision, modification, and re-evaluation, which may even result in terminating the original plan and coming up with a new plan.
What are five basic steps in planning

What impact does the mission statement of an agency have on planning
No matter how well constructed a plan; It must conform to the agency mission statement. Planning not centered on the agency mission statement serves only the sub-unit, not the agency
Define policies procedures and rules
Policies tell what to do not how to do it guides to thinking and decision-making
Procedures are chosen methods for carrying out tasks. Procedures tell how to do something.
Rules are not flexible and specifically direct how personnel should act on the job.
Considering policies procedures and rules which of them is most flexible? most restrictive?

Describe ways to classify plans
Managerial plans - Organizational, recruitment, personal evaluation, promotion and fiscal management.
Operational plans - patrol, emergencies, tactical, interdepartmental, community relations.
Note-Managerial is administrative and operational is enforcement
Why is self planning important?
Self planning is a supervisor planning his own efforts and time. It calls for looking in a mirror to decide what you will do, when you will do it and how you will do it, all the while evaluating what you have done. If the supervisor does not plan his own actions, it is likely the subordinates will not plan their actions
Explain the need for updating plans.
Plans must be constantly examined to see if the required actions are still needed, and if still needed, if they are affected. Plans are not effective if the results are not required or not sufficient or produce more unanticipated problem.
Why do line Personnel often resist plans created by centralize planning units?
Often centralize planning units devise and implement new plans and attempt to force the plan online personnel. Planning units would be better served to attempt to reduce resistance instead of increasing pressure to gain compliance
- What serves as the definition of planning?
Planning has been referred to as working out in broad outline the things that need to be done and the methods for doing them to accomplish the purpose set for the enterprise.
