Chapter 28 Flashcards
1
Q
diltiazem (Cardizem) for angina pectoris
A
Calcium Channel blocker
Inhibits transport of calcium into myocardial cells
Can relax peripheral and coronary vessels
-During IV monitor vitals
AE:
- Vasodilation
- Acute angina from abrupt withdrawal
-Don’t use w/digoxin
2
Q
atenolol (Tenormin) for angina
A
Beta adrenergic blocker
Slow HR and reduce contractility->less O2 demand
Assess BP/HR before, during, after admin
Don’t give PO if BPM under 60 or hypotensive
AE:
Black Box: Avoid abrupt discontinuation if you have ischemic heart disease. If angina worsens during that period, drug should be reinstituted*
Contraindications:
- Bradycardia
- AV heart block
- Cardiogenic shock
3
Q
Acute MI pharmacotherapy
A
Thrombolytics->anticoagulatnts/antiplatelet Nitrates Beta adrenergic blockers ACE inhibitors Pain management
4
Q
Treating angina w/beta blockers
A
Slow HR, reduce contractility
No tolerance
Reduce HTN
