Chapter 28 Flashcards
Blood functions
Clotting, deliver oxygen, remove co2, remove waste, filter organs
Coagulopathy
Loss of normal ability to form blood clot with internal/external bleeding
What does the renal system consist of
2 kidneys, 2 ureters, 1 urethra
Calculie
Kidney stones
Hemodialysis
medical procedure used to remove waste products and excess fluids from the blood when the kidneys are unable to perform this function adequately
Peritonal dialysis
Unlike hemodialysis, which involves an external machine, peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum) as a natural filter
Renal failure
When kidneys lose the ability to filter. Acute failure may be shock or toxic indigestion, chronic failure may be diabetes or hypertension
End stage renal disease (ESRD)
final stage of chronic kidney disease when the kidneys have lost nearly all their ability to function effectively and require dialysis or transplant
What symptoms can result from missing a dialysis?
CHF like symptoms
Hemodialysis ports of access
A-V fistula and two part catheter
Anima
Deficiency in number of red blood cells
Sickle cell anima
Anima caused by sickle cell disease
Pyelonephritis
An infectious beginning in the urinary tract and going up to the kidneys
Dialysis
Removal of toxic/excess waste by mechanical system independent of kidneys
Thrill
A pulsatile sensation or vibration felt during a physical examination
