Chapter 27: Radiation Technology Flashcards
Beam modification devices
Devices that when kept in the path of a beam produce a desirable modification in the special distribution of the beam.
Computed tomography (CT)
Radiography in which a three-dimensional image of a body structure is constructed by computer from a series of plane cross-sectional images made along an axis.
Fluroscopy
An instrument used in medical diagnosis for observing the internal structure of opaque objects by casting a shadow of the object upon a fluorescent screen.
Ionizing radiation
Any radiation, as a stream of alpha particles or X-rays, that produces ionization as it passes through a medium.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
A noninvasive technique based on nuclear magnetic resonance of atoms within the body induced by the application of radio waves to produce computerized images of internal body tissues.
Mammography
Use of X-rays to screen for cancer in breast tissue.
MRI technologist
Technologist radiographer who specializes in magnetic resonance imaging.
Mammography
Use of X-rays to screen for cancer in breast tissue.
MRI technologist
Technologist radiographer who specializes in magnetic resonance imaging.
Radiation oncologist
A physician who specializes in therapeutic radiology.
Radiation physicist
A worker who calibrates the linear accelerator simulator and checks that radiation output is accurate.
Radiation therapy
Treatment of disease by exposure of diseased tissue to radiation.
Radiologist
Specialist who diagnoses and treats illness by the use of X-rays and radioactive materials.
radiologic technicians
produce x-ray images of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems.
radiologic technologists
perform more complex imaging procedures
