Chapter 25: Seedless Plants Flashcards
Four Major Adaptions that allow plants to live on terrestrial land:
1.) The first adaptation is that the life cycle in all land plants exhibits the alternation of generations, a sporophyte in which the spores are formed and a gametophyte that produces gametes
2.) Second is an apical meristem tissue in roots and shoots
3.) Third is the evolution of a waxy cuticle to resist desiccation (absent from some mosses).
4.) Fourth is lignin in the cell walls to help support structures off the ground
Are algae single cellular or multicellular
single cell
location of cell division in roots
Apical meristem and root cap
location of maturation in roots
root hair, small projection for more surface for more absorption.
What is lignin?
Structural support, allows upward growth and increase height of plants overcoming force of gravity. Obtains more sunlight because of growth and increase dispersal distances for spores because of height.
