Chapter 20 (Patterns of Inheritance and Variation) Flashcards
What are the environmental causes of chlorosis?
1) Lack of light: Less chlorophyll produced to conserve resources
2) Mineral deficiencies: Iron and magnesium are needed to produce chlorophyll
3) Virus infections: Use resources, therefore less available to produce chlorophyll
What is monogenetic inheritance?
When the inheritance of a single gene is shown
What is codominance?
When there is more than one dominant allele present so they are both expressed
Example: A heterozygous codominant plant for white and red flowers would have pink flowers
What is sex linkage?
When genes are carried on the sex chromosomes
What is dihybrid inheritance?
When two genes are inherited
What is epistasis?
Epistasis is the interaction of genes at different loci
What is a hypostatic gene?
A gene which is affected by another gene
