Self Government:
Colonists were subject to British rule, but everyday decisions in each town couldn’t be addressed quickly enough by London. What did the colonists do?
Colonists developed the “town Meeting”. Villagers gathered to discuss and decide local issues.

Colonists created legislator to make laws. Each colony set its own voting rules for electing representatives.

The Great Awakening showed people that they could decide for themselves how to worship God. What else did it show them?
They could also decide how to govern themselves. It changed how they viewed political rights and government.

John Zenger printed articles showing the governor in a negative light. What happened to Zenger once he printed this?
Zenger was charged with libel and put on trial.

What principle was established after Zenger was found not guilty of libel?
The principle that was established was that a democracy depends on well-informed citizens.
What does Freedom of the Press mean?
The press has a right and responsibility to keep the public informed of the truth.
