All surrounded a major river that would flood, developed specific cultures/ religions, created some form of authority (dynasty, empire, used priests/pharoahs)

It helped introduce law and punishment into the civilization, showed they developed organization/justice system

SUMERIANS: Believed in many gods, bleak/ Gloomy afterlife
EGYPTIANS: polytheism, theocracy
HARAPPAN / INDUS VALLEY: Similar to Hindu culture, priests like rulers
CHINESE: One god (Shang Di + lesser gods) ancestors bring good/bad luck
