Q

Potency

A

Measure of amount of drug necessary to produce an effect of given magnitude. 50 % of maximum effect is used to describe potency.

Q

Efficacy

A

Magnitude of response drug causes when it interacts with a receptor. Dependent on number of drug-receptor complexes formed and intrinsic activity of a drug (ability to get response from receptor). Efficacy is a more clinically useful characteristic than potency
