Chapter 2 Drug Receptor Interactions And Pharmodynamics Flashcards
Major relevant pharmocologic receptors
Proteins that translucent extra cellular signals intracellularly. Include ligand gated channels, G protein coupled receptors, enzyme linked receptors, intracellularly receptors
Receptor
Any biological molecule to which a drug binds and produces a measurable response. Can be proteins enzymes nucleic acids
Potency
Measure of amount of drug necessary to produce an effect of given magnitude. 50 % of maximum effect is used to describe potency.
Efficacy
Magnitude of response drug causes when it interacts with a receptor. Dependent on number of drug-receptor complexes formed and intrinsic activity of a drug (ability to get response from receptor). Efficacy is a more clinically useful characteristic than potency
