Q

peptide bond

A

A peptide bond is a type of chemical bond that forms between the carboxyl group (-COOH) of one amino acid and the amino group (-NH2) of another amino acid, creating a peptide chain. During the formation of a peptide bond, a molecule of water (H2O) is released as a byproduct in a process called dehydration synthesis.

Peptide bonds are the primary covalent bonds that link amino acids together in proteins. The resulting chain of amino acids is called a polypeptide chain, and the sequence of amino acids determines the structure and function of the protein. The formation of peptide bonds is a key step in the process of protein synthesis and is catalyzed by enzymes called peptidyl transferases

The bond is not very flexible
