what is the YCJA?

how is the YCJA separate from the criminal code of conduct

what is the purpose of the YCJA
to rehabilitate and reintegrate

why do we need the YCJA?
youth are biologically different from adults [less mature]
ppl situations are different
privacy gives them a 2nd chance

do all youth who commit crimes go to court?

extrajudicial measures are a way to deal with youth outside the court system
how do extra judicial measures work?
[police referals]
police referals to certain programs, or the youth justice committee
what are extrajudicial sanctions?
gives teenagers a chance to repair the harm they caused the victim, if any
- can be elligible if they admit to crime and are willing to participate in program
what are factors that determine consequence
1) young persons history
2) how serious offense was
3) attitude towards offense
4) circumstances of young person

what are 4 ways citizens can be involved in the YCJA?
