- A suspension of organisms or portions of organisms (the antigens) that can stimulate an immune response without causing disease
- Immune system produces memory cells to specific antigen

Many are Vaccines Needed?
A
- Many communicable diseases can be controlled by behavioural or environmental methods
1) Ex. STI’s can be controlled by condom use
2) Ex. Cholera can be controlled by proper sanitation - When these methods fail:
~ Bacterial diseases can be treated with antibiotics
~ Viral diseases generally cannot be cured
VACCINES ARE THE BEST WAY TO CONTROL DISEASES FOR WHICH THERE IS NO CURE
