Chapter 1.6 Diffusion Flashcards
What is the definition of diffusion?
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles of and substance, in solution or a gas, resulting in a net movement from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration, down a concentration gradient.
What is the rate of diffusion affected by?
The rate of diffusion is affected by the difference in concentrations, the temperature, and the available surface area.
What dissolved substances move in and out of cells by diffusion?
Dissolved substances such as glucose and urea and gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide move in and out of cells by diffusion.
What does net movement equal?
Net movement= particles moving in - particles moving out
