Chapter 1.3 Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells Flashcards
What organelles do prokaryotic cells(bacteria) contain?
- Cell membrane
- Slime capsule
- Cell wall
- Plasmids
- Cytoplasm
- Genetic material
- Flagella
What is the function of the slime capsule?
The function of the slime layer is to protect the bacteria cells from environmental dangers such as antibiotics and desiccation(removal of moisture from something).
What is the function of plasmids?
The genes carried in plasmids provide bacteria with genetic advantages, such as antibiotic resistance.
What is the function of genetic material?
DNA containing most of the genes needed for cell growth, survival, and reproduction is found in the cytoplasm.
What is the function of the flagella?
Flagella are long, thin, whip-like appendages attached to a bacterial cell that allow for bacterial movement.
