Name the organelles found in an animal cell.
- Nucleus
- Cytoplasm
- Cell membrane
- Mitochondria
- Ribosomes
What is the function of a nucleus?
It controls all activities of the cell and is surrounded by the nuclear membrane.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
It is a liquid gel in which the organelles are suspended and where most of the chemical reactions needed for life take place.
What is the function of mitochondria?
This is where aerobic respiration takes place, releasing energy for the cell.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
This controls the passage of substances such as glucose.
What is the function of ribosomes?
This is where protein synthesis takes place, making all the proteins needed in the cell.
What is the function of a cell wall?
The cell wall is made of cellulose that strengthens the cell and gives it structural support.
What is the function of chloroplasts?
They are green because they contain chlorophyll which absorbs light so the plant can make food by photosynthesis.
What is the function of permanent vacuole?
It is a space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap. This is important for keeping cells rigid to support the plant.
