Domestic policy
A category of public policy that includes a broad and varied range of government programs affecting the lives of citizens within a country
Public policy
An intentional course of action or in action filed by government in dealing with some problem or a matter of concern
Patient protection and affordable care act
2010 legislation aimed at reducing the number of uninsured individuals and decreasing healthcare costs
Greenhouse gases
Gases in the atmosphere that lead to higher global temperatures
Global warming
The increasing global temperatures due to carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil
Agenda
Set of issues to be discussed or given attention
Systemic agenda
A discussion agenda; it consist of all public issues that are viewed as requiring governmental attention
Governmental agenda
Problems to which public officials feel obliged to devote active in serious attention
Agenda setting
The process of forming the list of issues to be addressed by government
Policy formulation
The crafting a proposed courses of action to resolve public problems
Policy adoption
The approval of a policy proposal by people with the requisite authority such as legislature
Policy implementation
The process of carrying out public policy
Policy evaluation
The process of determining whether a course of action is achieving its intended goals
Medicare
The federal program established during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration that provides medical care for elderly Social Security recipients
Medicaid
Government program that subsidizes medical care for the poor
No Child left behind act
Education reform passed in 2002 that employs high standard and measurements goals as a method of improving American education
Vouchers
Certificates issued by government that may be applied toward the cost of attending private or other public schools
Charter schools
Semipublic schools that have open admission but also receive private donations to increase the quality of education
Clean air act of 1970
The law that established national primary and secondary standards for air-quality in the United States. a revised version was passed in 1990
Clean water act of 1972
The act that created water quality standards to control pollution including elimination of point source discharge of pollutants
