Stage 1 : pre contemplattion
People in this stage have no intention of changing.
They do not exercise and do not intend to start in the next 6 months
The best strategy with precomtemplators is education
Stage 2 contemplation
People in this stage do nite exercise but are thinking about becoming active in the next 6 months
Because contemplators are thinking about becoming more active, personal trainers can have a great deal of influence on what comtemplators choose to do, whether or not they choose to exercise
Stage 3: preparation
People in this stage do exercise (occasionally) but are planning to begin exercising regularly in the next month.
They are believer in the health benefits of exercise
People in preparation stage may have unrealistic expectations for the change they hope to achieve, which often leads to high risk of disappointment and early drop out
Stage 4: action
People in the action phase are active
They have started to exercise but have not yet maintained the behaviour for 6 months
Some of the best strategies for keeping people in the action stage are to continue to provide them with education because it will strengthen their belief in the pros of exercise
Stage 5 maintenance
People in the maintenance stage have maintained hanged for 6 months or more.
Even though thy have formed a change in their behaviour in their exercise routine, they are still tempted to return to old habits of less exercise
Instrumental support
Is the tangible and practical factors necessary to help a person adhere to exercise or achieve exercise goals
Examples include transportation to the gym
A babysitter or a spotter for weightlifting at the gym
Emotional support
Is expressed through encouragement, caring , empathy and concern.
Informational support
Is one of the main reason that clients come to persona trainers in the first place.
This includes direction, advice or suggestions given to the client about how to exercise and the feedback regarding the progress
Companionship support
Support includes the availability of family , friends and co workers with whom clients can exercise

Realistic
Timely
Self monitoring
Is usually done in the form of daily written record of the behaviour that a client is trying to change
Identify challenges situation and barriers to exercise
Imagery
Is a form of stimulation , it is a process created to produce internalized experiences to support or enhance exercise participation
