What was the New Deal?
a phrase taken from a campaign speech in which Roosevelt had promised “a new deal for American people”. New Deal policies focused on three general goals:
•relief for the needy
•economic recovery
•financial reform
Who was FDR?
Franklin Delano Roosevelt. the two-term governor of New York and a distant cousin of former president Theodore Roosevelt.
What were the 100 Days?
a period of intense activity lasting from March 9th to June 16th 1933. Congress passed more than 15 pieces of New Deal legislation during this period.
What was deficit spending?
spending more money than the government receives in revenue.
Who was Eleanor Roosevelt?
a social reformer who combined her deep humanitarian impulses with great political skills. She traveled the world observing social conditions and reminding the president about the suffering of the nations people.

What was the Social Security Act?
- Old age insurance for retirees 65 or older and their spouses
- Unemployment compensation system
- Aid to families with dependent children and people with disabilities
What was the FDIC?
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. protected bank deposits up to $5,000
What was the SEC?
Securities and Exchange Commission. Supervised the stock market and eliminated dishonest practices.
