What is a community?

A

community is a variety of species living within one area. A community is made up of a variety of populations. Populations are only one type of species. Whereas, an ecosystem contains both biotic and abiotic factors.

How do Abiotic factors affect the ecosystem?

A

One example would be light sensitivity. Low light distribution means that there is kittle photosynthesis and so less vegetation and visa versa. High temperatures will mean more growth - as long as there is enough minerals and water in the soil.

A

A quadrant is a square frame placed into the ground or vegetation and makes it easy to access the plants within the quadrants.

Explain two ways in which animals compete for mates?

A

One way is that Animals may fight in a brutal brawl to see who will win the mate (eg. Leopards) whereas some animal specie’s males will simply try to impress the female to win her over as a mate.

How do plants cope with competition under the soil?

A

Plants have all different sized roots, and so a tree may have shallow roots and take minerals from the top layers of the soil while its neighbour might have larger deeper roots to extract it from further down.

A

Many are micro organisms and so can live in extreme temperature. For example achea.
Some extremophiles can live in conditions 80+ degrees as a result of their adapted enzymes.
