  • inattention
  • hyperactivity, seek external stim. to raise brain activity

A

neurodevelopmental disorder, 1 percent

  • caused by abnormal brain development
  • impaired social interaction, impaired communication
  • repetitive behaviors
  • start with smaller brain/head and brain develops much faster and becomes larger than average

A

schizophrenia, 1 percent

  • largely genetic cause
  • positive symptoms are addition to normal behavior, such as hallucinations and delusions
  • negative symptoms, absence of normal behavior, such as flat emotion and catatonia
  • cognitive symptoms, hard to learn and word salad

A

both are mood disorders

  • separated by severity, mdd more severe than pdd
  • pdd, must have symptoms for at least 2 yrs
  • mdd, so severe you don’t need symptoms for specific timeframe
  • sadness, lack of sleep, sleep alot, weight gain/loss, loss of interest
  • mdd most common worldwide of all disorders

  • bipolar 2, cycle between depression and hypomania

-frequent panic attacks
social anxiety disorder
-extreme self consciousness, fear of humiliation
agoraphobia

-intense fear of specific things

A

thoughts and rituals

  • obsesssive, uncontrollable thoughts about something
  • rituals, behavior you have to do
  • obssesive-compulsive, is obsessed, thoughts, with something and compulsed, ritual, to do that something
  • anxiety builds as person obsesses with something until they’re compelled to do something. anxiety goes down but starts to build again so it’s cyclical
