chapter 15: ME Flashcards
reciprocal inhibition definition
antoher muscle energy technique utilizes the reflex mechanism of reciprocal inhibtiion when antagonistic muscles are contracted
reciprocal inhibition direct technique explain example bicep muscle in spasm
if bicep muscle is in spasm, extend the elbow fully to the restrictive barrier, then have pt contract triceps against resistance
allows biceps to relaxd
indirect reciprocal inhibition biceps muscle spasm
fully flex elbow away from restrictive barrier, then have pt contract triceps against resistance
oculocephalogyric reflex
extraocular muscle contraction to effect cervical and truncal muscles
contraindications ME
post surgical pts
intesnive care pts
thoracic spine ME when do you move head and neck and then torso
T1-4 head and neck
T5-12 move throax
rib exhalation dysfunction
rib 1 pump
rib 1 bucket
pt raises head to ceiling (pump handle)
bucket: pt rotates head 30 degrees away from affected side and has hand on forehead, raise head
rib exhalation dysfunction
rib 2-10 bucket handle
pt raises hand towards ceiling
rib exhalation dysfunction
rib 2-10 bucket handle
pt pushes elbow of affected side towards pt raise hand toward ceiling and lateral at 45 degrees
rib exhalation dysfunction
ribs 11 and 12
pt prone, doc at opposite side of dysfunction
legs pulled toward doc so sidebend away from affected rib
pts arm on involved side above head in abduction
doc grasp ASIS and pull posteior
cephalad hand ob post rib affected
