What are the three branches of the aortic arch?
- brachiocephalic trunk
- left common carotid
- left subclavian
passes through the thorax
thoracic aorta
passes through the diaphragm and along the vertebral column in the abdomen
abdominal aorta
exits the right ventricle
pulmonary trunk
carry deoxygenated blood to the lungs
pulmonary artery
carries blood to the small intestine and first part of the large intestine
superior mesenteric
passes behind the clavicle
subclavian artery
first branch off the abdominal aorta inferior to the diaphragm
celiac trunk
carry blood to the kidneys
right and left renal artery
arteries that stay in the pelvic cavity

arteries that pass into the legs

dumps blood into the right atrium superior to the heart
superior vena cava
travels through abdominal cavity adjacent to the abdominal aorta; enters the right atrium from inferior to the heart
inferior vena cava
hepatic vein
empties blood from the liver into the inferior vena cava
renal veins
paired veins from kidneys to the IVC
