Chapter 14 - Landing Gear Flashcards
What is the maximum nose wheel steering angle with the tiller? With the rudder pedals? When will the body gear steering move?
• 70 degrees
• 7 degrees
• 20 degrees of tiller angle or more
With the autobrake selector set for landing, what will cause them to disarm?
• Move the any thrust lever forward after landing
• Move the speedbrake lever down
• Apply manual braking
• Select DISARM or OFF
• An autobrake system fault
• Normal antiskid system fault
• Loss of normal brake system pressure
What is the maximum speed for landing gear extension? Operation?
• 270 knots / Mach .82
• 320 knots / Mach .82
At what speed does the body gear steering disarm?
Rearm on landing?
• Disarm at 20 knots accelerating
• Rearm at 15 knots decelerating.
What does the EICAS message “GEAR TILT” mean?
• At least one main landing gear is not tilted.
• Do not retract the landing gear
The BRAKE SOURCE light is illuminated. What does this mean?
Systems 4, 1 and 2 ALL have low pressure.
The autobrakes are set to RTO. You initiate a rejected takeoff at 100 knots. What happens?
The autobrake system will apply 3,000 PSI to the main wheel brakes until the aircraft reaches a full stop.
What does a white hashed box displayed on the expanded gear position indicator indicate?
The associated landing gear is in transit.
In what order must the landing gear be extended using the alternate system?
No specific order is required. Press both alternate gear extension switches simultaneously.
The autobrakes are set to 2. What would be the effect of idle reverse thrust versus normal reverse thrust (70%) use on landing?
The selection of 2 with the autobrake selector selects a specific deceleration rate. Autobrake pressure is reduced with the use of reverse thrust.
Do we use Auto Brake 1? Why?
No
Because they do not heat up the brakes for optimum use.
RTO activates when?
When speed is greater than 85kts and
Thrust levers 1 & 3 are reduced to idle
How do we use the ALT Gear Extension?
Gear handle stays off
ALTN button releases up-lock & doors un-latch
Gravity extension for affected gear
Normal extend with gear handle for unaffected gear
EICAS expanded mode with ALT ops
When do speed brakes deploy if armed?
1 and 3 thrust levers to idle
Ground sensing
When do speed brakes deploy if not armed?
1 and 3 thrust levers idle
2 and 4 at idle reverse
What braking protections are on the 747?
Antiskid protection
Touchdown protection
Hydroplaning protection
Locked Wheel protection
Which hydraulic systems are used to actuate the landing gear?
System 1 for nose and body gear
System 4 for wing gear
The brake accumulator is only pressurized by which hydraulic system?
System 4
The landing gear lever lock prevents movement of the landing gear lever to the UP position unless?
Body gear are centered and main gear are tilted
In alternate mode, landing gear is actuated by what?
By gravity and air-loads, with electrical release
When operating with landing gear extended (ie. dispatched gear ‘pinned down’ or unable to retract gear after departure), the following restrictions apply:
Prohibited to operate in RVSM airspace or more than 50 nm from shore
