Chapter 14-Antineoplastic Flashcards
Erlotinib
Inhibiting various kinases in specific cancer cells
Well absorbed orally from the GI tract, reaching peak levels in 4 hours
Associated with cardiovascular events and pulmonary toxicity.
Elitek (Rasburicase)
Management of plasma uric acid levels in patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumor malignancies who are receiving antineoplastic therapy associated with tumor lysis and subsequent elevated serum acid levels
COX-2 Inhibitor
Site of action: Induced by inflammatory stimuli at the site of inflammation
Effects: Increases pain, inflammation, vasodilates, blocks platelet clumping
Assess for GI effects, changes in bleeding time, and water retention
Can lead to CV problems due to potential of blocking the protective responses in the body such as vasodilation and inhibited platelet clumping, which is protective if vessel narrowing or blockage occurs
When NSAIDS are combined with loop diuretics
Potential for decreased antihypertensive effect of beta blockers
Chrysotherapy
Treat with gold salts
Gold is taken up my macrophage, which then inhibit phagocytosis
Auranofin (Ridaura)
