A written or oral (or both) presentation of the findings of a research project to the specific audiences for whom the research was requested or to other interested parties.
Research Report
Report Format:
- Title Page
- Tables of Contents
- Intro/Research Objectives
- Research Methodology
- Executive Summary
- Findings
- Conclusions/Recommendations
- Supporting Documentation (Appendices)
The key component of the final report and summarizes the most important findings and recommendations of the research.
As the name implies, it is written for the executives who may or may not take the time or have an interest in digesting the entire report.
Executive Summary
Title Page
Should tell the reader:
- The subject of the study
- Who it was prepared for
- Who it was prepared by
- The date of the study
This section, it is advisable to list:
- the statement of management problem
- research Purpose
- including decisional alternatives and criteria
- research objectives and hypotheses
Introduction/Research Objectives
This section should include:
- a brief summary of research methods
- mention: primary means of data collection
- who were the respondents
- How many were contacted and where located
- type of instrument used to collect information
- general analysis of process
Research Methodology
A report usually includes several appendices that contain the data gathering instrument, detailed findings, quotations, and in some cases, more detailed statistical information that some managers may be interested in.
Appendices
A written document following a specific format to describe the procedures, findings, and recommendations of research person or team. This document may become a reference tool for the current issues being addressed as well as future research.
Written Report
A method of presenting and arranging data that have been broken down by one or more systems of classification.
Statistical Table
A table designed to aid in a formal analysis of interrelationships between variables.
Analytical Table
A table designed to be a repository of statistical data.
A Reference Table
Useful in showing differences between groups.
Bar Chart
Useful in marketing studies especially when showing market share or markets segments.
Pie Chart
Useful in showing trends in data and comparing trends for different products, customers, and market areas.
Line Chart
