Chapter 12 Flashcards
Data that may not be represented by numbers but rather themes or patterns of verbal or written responses such as recorded focus group interviews
Qualitative Data
reoccurring ideas/responses that come from respondents from which data is collected such as comments about the size of an exhibit.
Themes or Patterns
Questions to ask during the Qualitative Analysis Process
- What patterns or widespread themes appear around particular items in the data?
- Are there any variations from these patterns?
- What interesting anecdotes surface from the data?
- Do any of the patterns or developing themes suggest that further data need to be collected?
- Do the emerging patterns reinforce the findings of other corresponding qualitative analyses that have been performed?
Steps in Analyzing Qualitative Data:
Step 1: Process Step 2: Begin Analyzing Step 3: Data Reduction Step 4: Identifying Patterns Step 5: Conclusion
The grouping of data into themes that will help answer the research questions.
Thematic Analysis
The researcher reads each transcript and makes notes in the margins of words, theories, or short phrases that summarize what is being said.
Open Coding
Content Analysis is carried out by:
- coding the data for certain words
- Identifying their patterns
- Interpreting their meaning
The Three V’s of Big Data:
Volume, Velocity, and Variety.
Each of these affect the timing and type of analysis to be used.
