Chapter 13- Plant Structure And Transport Flashcards
Name the four part of a flowering plant.
Roots, stem, leaf, flower
Name 3 functions of a root.
Anchor the plant, take in water and minerals, store food.
Name the 3 functions of stems.
Hold up leaves, carry water and minerals, carry food.
Name the 3 functions of leaves.
Photosynthesis, allow exchange of O2 with CO2, allow loss of water vapour.
Name the 2 functions of a flower.
Sexual reproduction, producing seeds.
Name the 2 types of transport tissue
Xylem, phloem.
What is the function of xylem?
To transport water and minerals up the plant.
What is the function of phloem?
Transports food up and down the plant.
Describe the 4 steps of the passage of water and minerals through a plant.
- Water is taken into the roots of a plant.
- It travels up the stem to the leaves.
- Some of the water is used for photosynthesis.
- The rest passes out of the leaves.
What is transpiration?
The loss of water vapour from the surface of a plant.
Name 3 functions of transpiration.
- Bring water needed for photosynthesis.
- Carry minerals up the plant.
- To cool the plant like perspiration.
