Chapter 12 - Physics Flashcards
What can waves be used for?
They can be used to transfer energy and information
Where do longitudinal waves oscillate to?
Parallel to the direction of energy transfer in the waves.
Where do transverse waves oscillate to?
The perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer of the waves.
What is the amplitude of any wave?
It is the maximum displacement of a point on the wave from it’s undisturbed position, such as the height of the wave crest.
What is the frequency of any wave?
It is the number of waves passing a point per second.
What is the wavelength of any wave?
It is the distance from a point on the wave to the equivalent point on the next wave.
What are sound waves?
They are vibrations that travel through a medium (a substance).
