Political Party
An organized group that tries to influence government by electing its members to office.
Nomination
The process by which political parties select their candidates for election to public office
Closed Primary
A primary selection in which only those voters who registered with a party by a specific deadline before the primary election are allowed to participate
Open Primary
a primary election in which voters are not required to declare party affiliation.
Majority Party
The party that holds the majority of legislative seats in either the House or the Senate
Party Activist
A partisan who contributes time, energy, and effort to support a party and its candidates
Gender Gap
A distinctive pattern of voting behavior reflecting the differences in views between Women and Men
Political Caucus
A normally closed meeting of a political or legislative group to select candidates, plan strategy, or make decisions regarding legislative matters.
Party Machine
the internal organization of a political party, which decides its policies and directs its activities
Third Party
A party that organizes to compete against the two major American political parties
