Citizen’s feelings toward issues, leaders, legislation, etc.
Socialization
The process of an individual assimilation towards social norms and preferences through social interactions
Liberal
- Political and Social Reform
- Government intervention into economy

Conservative
- Those that support the social and economical status quo
- Suspicious of the introduction of new political formulas and economic reforms
- Believe that a large government poses a treat to the rights of citizens

A distinctive pattern of voting behavior showing the difference in voting views between men and women
Agenda-Setting Effect
The power to bring attention to particular issues and problems
Priming
A process of preparing the public to accept a particular view concerning a event or political actor
Framing
The power of the media to influence how events and issues are interpreted
Public Opinion Poll
A scientific instrument for measuring public opinion
Sample
A small group selected by researchers to represent the most important characteristics of a population
Probability Sampling
A method used by pollsters to to select representatives of a population, in which anyone in the population has an equal chance of being selected.
Random Digit Dialing
A poll in which respondents are selected at random from a list of 10-digit telephone numbers, in order to avoid bias.
Selection Bias
A polling error in which the sample is not representative of the population being studied, so some opinions are more represented than others.
Sampling Error
Polling Error due to small sample size
Measurement Error
The failure to identify the true opinion distribution within a population. Generally due to ambiguous or poorly worded questions.
