chapter 12 Flashcards
1
Q
what are the different levels of organization of skeletal muscles - draw a diagram
A
connective tissue
- epimysium
- perimysium
- somatic motor neuron
- endomysium
2
Q
what is the sliding filament theory of contraction - draw a diagram
A
3
Q
what are the molecular events of excitation-contraction m- draw a diagram
A
4
Q
what is the contractile cycle - draw a diagram
A
5
Q
what are the three different types of muscles
A
- skeletal
- cardiac
- smooth
6
Q
describe skeletal muscle
A
- striated multi nucleated cells
- attach to bones through tendons
- contact ONLY by motor neurons
- shortens when contacts
- constitutes about 40% of body weight (higher water and protein content)
- only controlled by ANS
7
Q
describe cardiac muscle
A
- striated single nucleus
- shortens when contracted
- only in the heart (pumps blood)
- influenced by ANS endocrine system
8
Q
describe smooth muscle
A
- non-striated single nucleus
- muscles of internal organs and hollow tubes (ex. liver, blood vessels and airways)
shrinks when contracted - influenced by ANS and endocrine system
9
Q
what is the function of skeletal muscle
A
- flexion (brings center of bones closer) and extension (move bones away from each other)
- moves the skeleton
