Influences are things that make you more or less likely to participate in physical activity.

Historical
Australia’s national identity is intertwined with sport and being active.
- The great outdoors
- Stereotypical ‘Sport mad’ Australians
- Australia has experienced success eg. Olympic Games
Society Values PA
Sociocultural Influences
Social
- Family, Peers, Classmates
- People do what other people do
- Supportive behaviours can lead to participation in PA
- Being active with others
- Encouraging activity > Providing support to be active such as transport
- Parental Support
Sociocultural Influences
Cultural
- Cultural/Linguistic differences can be a barrier to PA participation
- Cultural expectations and religious beliefs can also restrict opportunities to be active
- Cultural diversity can also promote interest in certain sports eg.
Soccer, Cricket, Rugby
Sociocultural Influences
Environmental
- Water (Beaches, rivers, lakes)
- Trees
- Grassland + Bushland
- Weather
- Each of the above can either promote or act as a barrier depending on what is available to you + where you live

Geographic
- Refers to the position in an area
- Eg. Hilly Areas (Geography)»_space;> Walking Paths?
- Eg. Rural Area (Geographic Location)»_space;> Distance from town, school, shops, sporting clubs.

- Age
- Sex (Gender)
- Ethnicity/Cultural Background
- Socio Economic Status
- Education Level
- Genetic Features
- Self Efficacy
ENABLERS
Enablers of physical activity are people or things that make it possible to participate in physical activity.
BARRIERS
Barriers are obstacles that block or impede access to physical activity
Enablers E.g
Children:
-Motor skill competence (running, jumping, throwing, catching)
-Perceived motor skill competence
-Design of outdoors (How are the outdoor spaces like?)
-Time of Week
Older adults:
-Social Support, eg friends
-Time
Perceived Barriers
-Lack of time
-Dislike of exercise
-Too tired
-Lack of company
-Lack of money
