Practicality vs accuracy

A
  • Recall Surveys are the most practical but the least accurate
  • Pedometers and slightly less practical but a bit more accurate
  • Accelerometers are in the middle for accuracy and practicality
  • Physical logs are accurate but not as practical
  • Direct Observation is the least practical method but the most accurate.

Advantages and Disadvantages
Subjective methods to measure PA

A

Advantages:
Can capture quantitative data and qualitative data.
Quick and Easy to fill out or distribute
Cost effective for larger scale
Could predict energy expenditure

Disadvantages:
Not suitable for young children or elderly people who are unable to complete.
Reliability and Validity issues with certain aspects
Interviewer could be needed to obtain certain information
