School violence
youth violence that occurs on school property, on the way to or from school or school-sponsored events, or during a school-sponsored event. A young person can be a victim, a perpetrator, or a witness of school violence.
Disruptive students
One who interferes with the educational process or a teacher’s authority over the students in the classroom.
Violent student
violent student may possess or threaten to use a gun, knife, or a dangerous weapon; or damage or destroy school district or personal property
Bullying
bullying as a form of harassment, which can include verbal, written, or cyber name-calling, can be physically threatening or humiliating, and “does not necessarily have to include an intent to harm, be directed at a specific target, or involve repeated incidents.”
Cyberbullying
Electronic aggression involving the use of cell phones, computers, or other electronic devices to humiliate or harass someone, and possibly even threaten physical violence.

Factors such as low educational achievement, low interest in education, dropping out of school, and truancy are potential contributors to criminal and violent behavior

Imminent warning signs
Imminet warning signs Indicators that early warning signs have moved into action. They include:
- Serious physical fighting with peers or family members
- Severe destruction of property
- Severe rage for seemingly minor reasons
- Detailed threats of lethal violence
- Possession and/of use of firearms and other weapons
- Other self-injurious behaviors or threats of suicide
- Has a detailed plan to harm others
Peer mediation
n approach to learn how to manage interpersonal conflict in elementary and secondary schools. These programs provide a unique opportunity for diverse students to use communication skills, human relations, and problem-solving skills in real-life settings. Effective programs can help to create a safe and welcoming school environment, improve interpersonal and intergroup relations, and assist in reducing school conflicts and violence, especially when part of a comprehensive violence prevention plan
Peer mediation
A process by which two or more students involved in a dispute meet in a private, safe and confidential setting to work out problems with the assistance of a trained student mediator.
Conflict resolution
The process by which people resolve a dispute or a conflict so that their interests are adequately addressed, and they are satisfied with the outcome.
A way for two or more parties to find a peaceful solution to a disagreement among them.
Developmental assets
The relationships and supports that guide students to behave in healthy ways and make good choices.
bullying
Unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.
protective factors
Conditions associated with lessened inclination for drug use.
