Chapter 10/Chapter 3 Flashcards
Evaluation
gathering information or data about the effectiveness of one’s work as a school counselor. Evaluation data consists of use of time, process, perception, and outcome components
Use of time data
derived from recording how much time spent in providing professional services & how the time is distributed across various school counselor roles.
Process data
derived from collecting evidence about specific events or activities that occurred that were services provided by the school counselors to students or others who received something of value.
Perception data
derived from surveys distributed to various stakeholders with the content varied from attitudes, opinions, needs or informed knowledge
Outcome data
provides information about the impact of various activities & programs that are delivered by the school counselor. There are two forms, distal data & proximal data
distal data
data about schools or school systems rather than individual counselors
proximal data
directly attributed to the efforts of school counselors. As an example, Professional School Counselors delivered classroom guidance programs and the measure of the effects as evidenced by student data
Accountability
analyzing, processing, sharing the results of evaluation endeavors. Here, data is analyzed to 1. better understand how time was used, 2. document processes involved, 3. capture perceptions of stakeholders, and 4. provide evidence of goal-driven interventions.
Important Evaluation/Accountability Data
- Needs assessment data
- Process data
- Use-of-time data
- Perception data
- Outcome data
- Disaggregated data
Needs Assessment Data
activities designed to acquire information about consumer needs. The process includes IDing those to be assessed, determining method to reach them, devising a measure plan, & interpreting results to stakeholders.
MEASURE
a six step process for collecting data and achieving accountability. This process provides a tool for getting organized, targeting data to be disaggregated and reporting results.
MEASURE: M
Mission: Align the school counselor’s role with the school’s mission and goals in the annual school improvement plan.
MEASURE: E & A
Element & Analyze: examine critical elements of available data important to school’s mission.
MEASURE: S & U
Stakeholders & Unite: identify stakeholders to help and unite to develop an action plan.
MEASURE: R
Results: reanalyze and determine whether goals were met. If targets met, set new ones & replicate what was successful
