Individuals who already hold office
Pork barrel
Federal projects, grants, and contracts available to state and local governments, businesses, colleges, and other congressional district.
Speaker of The House
An office mandated by constitution, speaker chosen by majority party and 3rd in line for president.
Majority Leader
Helps Speaker of House and is responsible for scheduling bills, influencing committee assignments, and rounding up votes
Whips
Work with majority and minority leader to count votes
Standing Committees
Committee in each house of Congress that handle bills in diff. Policy areas
Conference committees
Formed when senate and house pass same bill but in different words, work to turn that into one bill.
Committee Chairs
Influence committee agendas, schedule hearings, hire staff, and look at bill before bringing it forth to congress.
Oversight
Congress’s monitoring of the executive branch bureaucracy and its administration of policy
Filibuster
Senate strategy to halt the passing of a bill.
