communicate in more than one of official languages.
Responsibility - act responsibly, & be reliable.
Adaptability - adapt to broad spectrum of situations & people.
Sensitivity - display sensitivity, & know how to behave in different situations with
different respondents.
Emotional control - not get emotionally involved/ easily upset, & instill confidence so
respondents feel free to air opinions.
Acceptability - image and first impressions of fieldworker influence responses.

Typical errors made by fieldworkers
- Respondent selection errors: respondents other than
those specified in the research design are selected;
e.g. Tourists vs South Africans - Questioning errors: respondents asked questions that are not in the words in the questionnaire. e.g. asking
respondents which flavour they buy most as opposed
to which they likemost - Recording errors: fieldworkers incorrectly record or
misinterpret answers given by respondent. E.g. recording ‘fudge mint crisp’ as fudge cookie crumble’ - Cheating errors: interviewer fabricates possible
answers to questions
