A

As a rule uou must park on the right side of the road

Left is allowed but only if it is not possible to park on the right.

Exeception –> one way road –> traffic from one way - safer

  6. Bus lane or bus route –> not allowed to stop on or next to
  7. Bus stop –> Not allowed in the bus stop area –> same rule applies to 12 metres before and after bus stop sign L3

Note –> allowed to let passengers in and out but drive off as soon as a bus approaches

  1. Yellow solid line –> on the side of the road
  2. Tunnels –> not allowed to stop in tunnels

NO! –> not allowed to parked in areas meant for other vehicles/drivers –> taxis, trucks, disabled drivers

A

Some parking places require you to have a parking disc in order to park –> parkeerschijf zone –> marked by a blue line

Disc must be placed behind windscreen and be clearly visible –> set time (round to the next half-hour/hour) –> you are not allowed to park than the maximum time

Blue line –> disc only applies to vehicles with more than two wheels

A

In case of emergency you are allowed to stop your car on the hard shoulder or in an emergency parking area

  1. Changes lanes in a similar way you would do when you exit via a deceleration lane
  2. After you get out –> stay to the right of your car
  3. Either use your hazard lights or warning triangle –> or you can use both
  4. Take the necessary actions to solve the problem –> e.g. call for help

Wheel change?

  • Place warning triangle 30 metres down from the car
  • Left wheel change –> put car as far as possible to the right –> comnsider parking part of your car on the verge.

A

Requirements:

  1. Max distance is 5m between rear of one vehicle and the front of the other
  2. Both drivers need a valid driving license
  3. Proper tow stap and correct attachment
  4. Drive on adjusted speed
  5. Do not turn hazard lights unless there is a specific hazard
  6. Motorway or trunk road is very risky
  7. Brake and power sterring of vehicle being towed will not work if engine is off

How to open/clear airway?

A

Put them in the recovery position

  1. Check if the victim has anything in his mouth that may hamper breathing –> if yes, remove using a scooping movement with your fingers
  2. Place them in the position shown below

What should you do if the victim has difficulty breathing?

A

You must apply mouth to mouth or mouth to nose resuscitation

Procedure

  1. Victim on their back
  2. Put your hand on their forehead and keep your thumb and forefinger free
  3. Place the tips of your forefinger and middle finger of your other hand under the victims chin
  4. Lift the chin to clear the airway –> tilting the head back
  5. Pinch the soft part of the nose with your thumb and forefinger
  6. Open the victims mouth slightly
  7. Breathe in as normally and seal your mouth over their
  8. Breathe into their mouth –> checking whether their chest rises
  9. Keeping the chin up –> Check if the chest falls —> repeat

Note –> Mouth to nose –> close the lips raher than the nose

What is CPR?

A

When mouth to mouth is combined with compressing the victim’s breastbone –> Called CPR

Normally done when the person is in a state of deep unconsciousness.

Dangers with severe bleeding?

A

Victims with severe bleeding may lose too much blood and then go into shock

Most dangerous –> arterial bleeding –> spurts of blood

A

Once an incident has happened you should complete the European claim form –> complete it with the other party at the place of the accident.

Note –> you are not obliged by law to complete this but you are obliged to give your personal data and vehicleinformation

How to act if your car ends up in water?

A
  1. Switch on your ligths –> exterior and interior –> car needs to be visible –> Hence, do not switch off the ignition
  2. Release your seat belt –> if this is not possible –> cut with the knife that is part of the emergency hammer kit –> help other people in the car
  3. Open the side window –> Do it with the window control otherwise shatter it with the emergency hammer
  4. Leave the car –> leave the car by backing out with your face facing the car roof –> then help others to get out

How to get out of your seat belt when the car is upside down?

A

Problem –> since you are upside down your own weight is blocking the seatbelt release mechanism

  1. Push feet against dashboard –> so that you push yourself against the seat
  2. Use one hand to push against the roof
  3. Use the other hand to release the seatbelt
  4. Move legs one by one towards the roof and you will automatically roll out of your seat

Alternatively you can cut the seat belt with the emergency hammer

Hit the corner of the glass with the hardened striking point –> glass is less resilient –> will shatter immediately.
