Who were the Mongols?
- They were Nomadic horsemen
- from the Eurasian steppe
- mastered open plains
- largest contagious (sharing a border) empire
Why were the Mongols so good in battle?
They could attack and retreat wayyyyy faster than their enemies and they could defend invaders from multiple locations because of how fast they were
What were yurts? How did they help?
They were like mini huts that could be setup very quickly within an hour. Because they could be put up in an hour it meant that the Mongol tribes could travel for longer and would only have to stop riding an hour before sunset to set the yurts up.
How were they expert horsemen?
They were taught to ride horses from a young age so that by the time they were adults they were expert horsemen.
How did a Mongol warrior ride fast?
Each warrior had 4-5 horses that would let them ride 100-320 km per day. They would have stops that were setup around the empire so that when ur horse is tired you go and swap it out there for a new horse and carry on instead of waiting for your horse to regain its energy (made them faster).
How were the Mongols good at archery?
They were good horseback archers and could shoot from any angle using their compound bows which were smaller and more maneuverable on horses and were very powerful (and could beat the romans up)
What was a strategy the Mongols used?
They often lured their opponents into chases, while they were being chased they would shoot at their enemies until that got weary and then the Mongols would turn around and attack their week opponents.
What was the difference between the Mongols armor and their enemies armor?
They were lightly armored compared to their enemies who had heavy armor. Because of this they were faster than their enemies and relied heavily on speed to complete surprise attacks on their enemies.
What did the Mongols do to their targets?
They would send them a message and if the targets refused capture they would be mercilessly killed.
What happened in 1258?
Baghdad fell because they resisted the Mongols, causing the end of the Islamic Golden Age.
Why was the great wall of china constructed?
To keep the Mongols out, because horses can’t get over walls, and the Mongols horses were their main advantage so they wouldn’t be able get over the wall successfully.
