Chapter 10 Pelvis Flashcards
This joint is the articulation of the sacrum with the innominate (Fusion of the ilium, ischium, and pubis) bone.
Sacroiliac Joint
Also known as sacral flexion, occurs when the superior aspect of the sacrum rotates anteriorly, and thus the inferior portion of the sacrum rotates posteriorly with respect to innominate bones, occurs with trunk flexion and hip extension.
Nutation
The superior aspect of the sacrum moves posteriorly, and thus the inferior portion of the sacrum rotates anteriorly, occurs with trunk extension and hip flexion.
Counter-nutation
Occurs when the superior aspect of the pelvis, tilts forward, moving the ASIS anterior to the pubic symphysis
Anterior Pelvic Tilt
Occurs when the superior aspect of the pelvis tilts backward moving the ASIS posterior to the pubic symphysis
Posterior Pelvic Tilt
Exist when the two iliac crest are not level. This type of tilt is identified by the side of the pelvis that is lower than the other side
Lateral Pelvic tilt
Exist when one side of the pelvis is higher than the other side, and is a result of a concentric contraction. It is defined by the side of the pelvis that is higher than the other.
Pelvic Elevation
Occurs when one side of the pelvis moves forward or backward in relation relation to the other side. It is identified by the side of the pelvis that is farther forward than the other.
Pelvic Rotation
A linear movement of the pelvis, shifting side to side.
Lateral Pelvic Shift
a wedge shaped, consisting of five fuse, sacral vertebrae
Sacrum
a cartilaginous joint in the midline of the body is formed by the joining of the anterior portions of the right and left pubic bones
Pubic Symphysis
Is the articulation between the fifth lumbar L5, and the first sacral vertebrae S1
Lumbosacral Joint
The angle between the superior surface of the sacrum and a horizontal line
Lumbosacral angle
