Chapter 10 - Homeostasis Flashcards
Compare hydrostatic pressure and osmolarity between Bowman’s capsule and glomerulus
Glomerulus has more pressure, causing fluid to move into nephron
Osmolarity higher in the blood, opposing hydrostatic pressure
HOWEVER,
Hydrostatic P»_space;> Oncontic pressure
**so fluid still moves into nephron
What does Secretion mean (in terms of nephron)?
Nephrons can secrete salts, acids, bases, and urea into tubule
it référés to movement of salutes from blood to filtrate anywhere besides Bowman’s capsule
What is réabsorption?
Movement of solutes from filtrate to blood
What are the major waste products excreted in the urine?
Dump the HUNK
H+
Urea
NH3
K+
What happens in the PCT of nephron?
Réabsorption:
- AA, Glucose, water sol vitamins, salts
Secretion: H+, K+, NH3, Urea
Which part of the nephron is permeable only to water?
Descending loop of Henle
Draw out the nephron with sites of R, S, F, E
Draw it
What is countercurrent multiplier system?
Descending loop of H lets water out (diffuses passively into salty medulla)
Ascending Loop actively pumps out ions, making medulla salty
